Dallas, TX: The Army Scholarship Foundation is proud to announce that General James H. Dickinson, U.S. Army (Retired), has joined the Foundation’s Honorary Advisory Committee.

General Dickinson’s decades of military leadership and dedication to service make him an invaluable addition to the Foundation’s mission of empowering the children and spouses of U.S. Army soldiers and veterans through higher education.

A native of Estes Park, Colorado, General Dickinson graduated from Colorado State University in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also holds a Master of Science in Operations Research and Systems Analysis from the Colorado School of Mines and a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.

General Dickinson retired from the U.S. Army in 2025, concluding a distinguished career with his final assignment as Commander of U.S. Space Command (USSPACECOM) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In this role, he led more than 18,000 Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Guardians defending U.S. and Allied interests in the space domain and providing space-enabled support to joint warfighters worldwide.

Prior to commanding U.S. Space Command, General Dickinson served as Deputy Commander of USSPACECOM and Commander of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command in Huntsville, Alabama. Throughout his career, he held command at every level—from Platoon to Combatant Command—and served as the Senior Air and Missile Defense Officer in the Department of Defense.

Founded in 2001, the Army Scholarship Foundation provides college scholarships to the spouses and children of U.S. Army soldiers and veterans. Since its founding, ASF has awarded over $2.5 million in scholarships, empowering Army families to pursue education, overcome financial barriers, and achieve their goals.
